New Gun Pick Up--Kel Tec KSG

Postby Mynock » Thu Jan 22, 2015 12:16 pm

FINALLY managed to find one of these with a reasonable price tag. :D
Behaves pretty much as described in countless youtube reviews. Ok performance with low brass target loads, occasionally fails to feed or eject. Put 00 Buck in it and it works flawlessly as long as you rack the slide hard.
Fit is good, finish is ok. Black finish on the metal parts is really rough in places and the brazing on the mag tube brace is sloppy. Doesn't hurt performance but for the price I expected better.
Verdict: CQB Shotgun Nirvana

^^Ha, Probably watched that a dozen times. I now flinch when I watch him shoot those slugs because HOLY SHIT does this thing kick with slugs in it.

The bandoleer I got off some bargain rack years ago. Looks ridiculous but it's actually a really convenient way to cart ammo around, beats knocking over an open box of shells and having to pick them all up out of the dirt. One of these days I plan to pick up a surplus MOLLE vest and rig it with a shell holder or something.

"If it's stupid and it works, it aint stupid"

Yeah, kinda figured with it being a bullpup it wouldn't be gentle. Plus Hickok is 6' 4" + kinda guy, so he wouldn't say much unless he was trying fire a PIAT from the hip :D

The super short design is worth the sore shoulder. This has all the makings of a great HD shotgun if it proves reliable enough.

Light mount showed up today. One of the few issues with this beast is trying to find a place to put a weapon light. Magpul saves the day again (seriously these people should use the Bat Signal for their logo). Took a their 11 o'clock Rail Light Mount and put it on the top rail.

If you had an AR, AK, Rem 870 or Glock they're the first place I'd send you to man. Everything I've bought from them has turned out to be this awesome blend of function, durability, economy and good looks.

Like the looks of that light mount. I wonder if one could be made strong and light enough to put a light far enough to the side that anybody shooting at the light will miss you?
