Who is your fav QS writer?

Any place I can find JT's works? It doesn't seem I can easily find them...

And! There's the story "Sheena's Bonds" by Manassas Kilne. I haven't found the rest of the stories by the author, if they even exist, but THAT story is quite possibly my favorite. It's hard to describe why it's so perfect (partly because it's 3AM...), but the build-up to the total helplessness is so perfect.

Favorite author? I've been hesitating to post anything on this for fear of missing someone. So many have contributed over the years to the written quicksand genre - to varying degrees of success, admittedly - it is hard to pin down sometimes. Consistently good authors are rare, true, but there are so many who have provided a story or scene which works so damn well, I'd hate to leave them out.

But after much thought, here it goes... authors and stories which really made an impact with me. Not complete by any means, but a sampling...

Viridian, who's fiction tutorials are as great as his fiction pieces.

Fatal Embrace by Sacha (?) a first person story of a young lady who meets her erotic doom in quicksand, really resonated with me because it was the first time I read a story which connected sex with quicksand (That idea never occurred to me before... oddly enough). It is simple and straightforward, but wow. Talk about making a great first impression.

Both "Triad" and "Final Scene" by Coyote Soul - again, pioneering stories to me in this sexual quicksand idea, plus in Triad a measure of using quicksand for revenge. Plus damn good tales to boot.

Vicious Circle and Brady Marsh Park by Jiminy Thicket. Admittedly he was extreme for a lot of folks, but these two tales stand out. VC is simply, wow... every jungle peril imaginable happens to one young lady, and it is simply... wow. Brady Marsh Park closely matches a fantasy of mine, only a lot better written.

Tales by Derek Jayson - again, early tales, first impressions. Plus I just dug them for quick qs fixes.

Sakura Inverse for the vampire qs tales.

Foster Blake and Toby Robin O'Keefe for their G and PG rated adventure tales. Sometimes, quicksand is just quicksand.

Fear 359 for his straight up sinking stories. I particularly like "Too Bad, So Sad," about a prank gone wrong, and The Farm, as I love prison escapes gone wrong.

Crypto, Kaol, Der Mud Gecko, Mirador, DJ Lurker and Regansi have all produced awesome stories.

Whoever wrote "Tantrum"

There are many others, but those are just the ones I can recall right now.

Not even a single mention of Jiminy Thicket? Has anyone here ever even read a quicksand story before?

At one time I read them all and even attempted a few. JT was one that I found more likely to make me nauseated than aroused. His writing and imagination were great but the subject matter filled a niche that I suspect most of us do not inhabit.

Speak for yourselves, fellas. In the early days of my Quicksanderhood, I indulged in a five-story glut of Jiminy tales that left my quicksand psyche, which was inexperienced in the ways of real mud, in delightfully evil knots.

My all-time favorite writer, though, is Kaol, because he could write about anything. He mostly featured sinking girls, but he did write about sinking guys on occasion. He handled drama, horror, and comedy in a way that was always easy to read and entertaining. He also had plot and character and all that good stuff. I have always had trouble reading type on computer screens and usually have to print it to concentrate on it, but with Kaol, I often forgot that it was not paper.

There are or rather were some good male oriented QS writers out there. But they and their material seem to disappear after a while. A shame.

Whoever wrote "Tantrum"

That would be Scott Duncan... nicely written story... his attention to detail in that story included how he described Heather's jeans as, "...slowly bunching up around her knees. She was sinking."

And, there's also Nessie who was brilliant in drawing original Quicksand Art, making Quicksand Manipulations, making Quicksand Videos, AND writing Quicksand Literature. She did a Quicksand Manipulation for me titled, "Nodica's Walk," and wrote a Quicksand Poem to go along with it... VERY NICE!!!

For me it's Crypto. His story Gail's Gallop, is my favorite quicksand story. He goes into great detail about her tight faded jeans sinking into the sticky sludge after she falls off her horse. I love how the ranger rescues her, only to end up watching her wade out into the bog again to save her horse. It also has a great ending with the damsel, inviting her rescuer over to her house.

I was also inspired by Crypto when I started writing. Gail's Gallop and David's Day were my favourites. David's Day was a simple story - no huge plot, but set up plausibly and focused on the interaction between the two characters, especially writing from male first-person. The attention to the female was appropriately subtle - a brief reference to her boobs, the feeling of her nipples against his hand - without losing track of the whole sinking experience. Gail's Gallop is great too in the way it really extends the bog scene, describing at appropriate times when the quicksand would devour the female character's body bit by bit, covering it with a layer of light sexualisation to make it an arousing read, but still very much a melodramatic experience. I also really liked how he used the setting he created - using the horse as a central plot device, and getting Gail to struggle in different ways and eventually getting her back into the bog several times without making it look like a cheesy grab for more bog time.

Thanks! Those are some of my best work. "The Sucking Pool" and "The Bogs of Madness" being my favorites.
