I am very sad about the passing of Mr. Nimoy. I admired him right from the 60's series of Star Trek, the featured films and all the rest. I'm a life long Trekker and I will most certainly miss him. Live Long And Prosper Mr. Spock!!

A very sad day...

Mr. Nimoy and the original cast of Star Trek set the presidence for what we see and have today... a world where races live and work together as one, a world where the cellular phone can be flipped opened like a communicator, a world where lasers play a major role in almost everything we do, a world where we actually talk to our computers... and they talk back, and a world where the human race has actually gone where no one has gone before...

Mr. Nimoy has contributed so much to our lives in so many ways... and it's sad not to have him anymore in our lives.

Best wishes, Mr. Nimoy, as you boldly begin your next adventure. And, best wishes to his family and friends.

"He's not really dead... as long as we remember him." Dr. Leonard McCoy, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

I was very shocked to hear the sad news of Mr. Nimoy's passing. :( We have lost yet another great celebrity, who was a big part of a TV/movie franchise that has inspired generations of people, including astronauts and the other people of their associated agencies, such as NASA and ESA ( http://mashable.com/2015/02/27/astronau ... moy-death/ ). He lived long and prospered, and his image and legacy will continue to live on.

Here are some reactions from various celebrities:

Yep.

We were all sitting in the room admiring our newfangled cell phones...and I flipped mine open and said:

"Kirk to Enterprise!"

I was doing okay dealing with Leonard Nimoy's death. Then somebody posted a meme with Spock telling Scotty "One to beam up" and Scotty saying "It'll be a pleasure t' have ye aboard, sir." At which I remembered that Jimmy Doohan really is "up there" at the transporter controls. Must be the dry air or something.

Our local paper mentioned in an article that he had written an autobiography in 1974 defiantly titled "I am not Spock!" And then twenty years later, he wrote a second, titled "I am Spock" where he gave up and admitted it. In it, he wrote: "Hardly a day goes by that I don't hear that cool voice in my head, commenting on some aspect of the human condition." I think that applies to a lot of us.
Maybe it's just a Star Trek Fan thing, but I wonder how many times a day somebody looks at a situation, raises (or attempts to raise) one eyebrow, and says "Fascinating. . ." So many more of Spock's classic sayings have made their way into my family's vocabulary; "Illogical, Captain." "Random events seem to have operated in our favor." "Curious how humans use a metabolic poison as a recreational drug." Beyond Spock, how many classic Trek lines have been woven into American popular culture?

But I think the greatest legacy of Star Trek may be in hard, real-world science fact. Right now, some of our most brilliant scientists are working on both a massless propulsion system (aka a "Vacuum Propeller" similar to Trek's impulse drive) and- believe it or not- warp drive.
