CDR SAL has some video for the SPECIAL snowflake fucktard morons who thought this POS up

Heavy Seas?? The fucking swell looks about 8-10 feet, maybe blowing 20-30 knots, MAYBE. I've been out in worse weather on Lake FUCKING Erie!

Drink, need a drink....
Jesus, the next war is going to be sheer fucking butchery on the USN , replay WW II early days....

Too many abbreviations. I spent six years in the USN, and couldn't read that.

The problem with having been in Engineering was that we never got to see the really big swells. (during storms, weather decks would be secured) I remember what storms were like from inside, but there aren't exactly a lot of windows on a frigate where the engineers work, so I don't know what they look like, and I don't know a number of feet of swells that would indicate what severity of storm.

One day, during an unrep, after I got off the detail that pulled the cable and fuel lines over, I was actually allowed (for once!) to get out and take pictures. Our ship was bobbing like nothing I've ever ridden, and just as I went to take a picture of a ship ahead of us, the bow came down and a wave came up, and I got one picture of a wall of white water just before spinning in place to save the camera from water. A shipmate that wasn't watching caught the wave on his side, and the both of us went to go change out of our soaked clothes, me with a dry front and him with one dry side. It was FUNNY!

I never felt seasickness, though I came close when I first stepped off the ship after being at sea, it felt like the world was rocking. That was freakish. After I got over that, though, sea motion was never a problem. In 2012, my wife and I flew up to Boston and went on a cruise to try and see puffins too late in the season. There was a storm brewing, though, and the seas were fairly rough. The boat we were on was a lot less stable than the frigate ever was, and my wife got seasick. It was sad, in that there was nothing I could do to help her. (I had shipmates that would buy sardines the first day underway and go hunting for new guys to eat in front of, but that wasn't something I would dream of doing to her)

I'd kinda like a drink too. I haven't bought any booze since New Year's Eve. Plan is to go a year without. We'll see...

^^Thank you for your service.
I've been following these off and on (mostly via Kham's ranting ( :P ) and honestly these things strike me as a solution in search of a problem......too big and slow to be a fast attack boat, too undergunned to play with the big kids.....What are they for? Do we really need a half billion dollar up-armored yacht to chase down a dozen Somalians in a frigging bass boat?
Doubt it'll lead to any serious combat liability, just billions of wasted dollars.....Thomas Edison fucked up a few thousand times before he figured out the lightbulb too. :D

They actually, ACTUALLY championed how fucking awesome this was in precisely the conditions I estimated. Gee wonder how well this fucking overblown yacht would make out in Typhoon Cobra? When you consider this thing was designed and conceived by fucking people who make airplanes, it explains some of it. And they watch too much Star Trek. It's important to realize, that a 1942 ELCO PT Boat has more firepower. And not by a little. These assholes actually based operational considerations on 'speed' and 'able to evade enemy action'
Jesus H Christ on snowshoes....ooooooo it can go 45 knots...wheeeee! waterskiing speed! Except, last I checked, you can't outrun incoming gunfire. Never mind IR or Radar-seeking antiship missiles. And it is undercrewed, for even maintaining the damn thing; never mind trying to do any sort of DC when hit. Of course, the fucking retards who came up with this never spent a day at sea, or under fire. Playing Call of Duty is not the sort of thing that gives you the credentials needed. Not a single one of these shitboxes has done anything worthwhile. Not a single one has undergone shock testing, a somewhat controversial procedure that's a separate case, but something the Navy is medieval about. I can guess why though. Aside from the fall down hilarity....it would be somewhat humiliating if they shock tested it and blew it in half  And would utterly destroy the entire concept in spades.

Edit: Shock testing on USS Theodore Roosevelt -- notice the magnitude of the explosion; this is why the entire concept is somewhat controversial -- google it and see some of the onboard vids for some ships. Actual damage is sustained, eg blown circuits, busted lockers, panels, etc. There might be some value to proving ships can take it, but theres also the argument that you take a slice of life off of the hull.

And if you think I'm alone...

Guess again

CDR SAL has had this shitbox in his sights from the very beginning. More balls-kicking Here It should be very important to note one of his points: FLUFFING the O-5 retards for the O-6 boards; gotta have those commands to make them look good, n'cest pas?

I think I'm closer to having a clue here now. You have a problem with USN ship design, I think. I can well understand that. I just finished reading the article from your last post. It did not include specs on the DDG1000, so I don't yet know what that ship has on it. I do very much agree that designing a new warship should start with an analysis of what the ship's purpose is, rather than "what would be cool and make lots of money for the military industrialists who put us in office?"

I would rant, at this point, about the shortcomings of the ship I was on, but the whole class is likely on its way out, so I don't see what good it would do.

What does "LCS" stand for?

According to Wikipedia, "LCS" stands for "Littoral Combat Ship", a United States warship class:

According to SAL, and the non-dicksuck SW Types, it's more properly Little Crappy Ships
No weapons, no mission, no nothing. Vapourware 'modules' and no capability to do anything except die spectacularly

They couldn't even agree on one common design.
THAT is how fucked-up BuShips is. Two seperate designs, in two completely different shipyards, to make congress cocksuckers happy. At least treaty cruisers in the 30s had common design and armament. God help them in the next shooting war

I think it's interesting we don't have any new ships designed to do any sort of shore bombardment. I don't think unreps are really set up to transfer tomahawks or harpoons. I guess artillery is no longer "sexy" to the military industrial folks.

Your use of the word "them" is confusing.

The people building these POCrap ships won't be harmed, it's the sailors who will do all the dying. The people who used this opportunity to rake in cash for their financial backers, and through the backers their election campaigns, will dodge any blame like kung fu masters at a food fight where a six-year-old is lobbing whole pies. Worst case, they will pick one guy to take the blame so everyone else can get away with all their cash. My bet is the whole thing will be blamed on whatever poor schmuck gets put in charge of the new ships when they all get sunk.

If only there were a good objective way to deal with humans. Things for us can work okay, but only when there is a leader willing to go through all the crap it takes to pretty much force good things, and there are so very many greedy people out there trying to take all they can for themselves.

It just looks different now. You don't have to keep an 8" cruiser fleet around because it's no longer necessary to sling thousands of shells to hit a target. Also the Marine Corps hasn't made an opposed beach landing since Korea and barely then. Now vertical lift takes them to where the enemy ain't. The same ships provide helicopters and 5" guns to suppress whatever they are likely to run into today.

I'm certainly not taking up for the LCS as I see it as a badly flawed idea that has little love and is moving ahead on it's own bureaucratic momentum. I explained the LCS concept to my former CPO father and he wasn't impressed to say the least. Just remember things do sometimes change for the right reasons.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
