Re: Poll: What's the Age of the Average Quicksand Fan?
I think starting age would be pretty easy for most of us. As far back as I can recall would be mine. I really think all we're after here is getting a rough idea of everyone's current age in this group.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

The point I am trying to make is that the age of fans is probably not relevant to anything in particular What might be of interest is a survey of starting ages I suspect that with universal access to internet information any potential QS fetishist is going to start younger How many subsequently give up is not going to be discovered on this site!!
I have reason to believe the period key on your keyboard is broken. Consider getting it fixed.
Also, let me get this straight: you think a survey of everyone's current age, which is already proving to be diverse and informative, is boring and irrelevant, but a survey of the age that everyone got started on their fetish (which I can tell you will almost entirely consist of the age 5-15 bracket) would be original and more interesting, and not predictable as hell? K.

Ace appears to be correct about the period key. My own opinion is that knowing about the age distribution at present and that at first discovery would be interesting and maybe even useful. Its often valuable to gather empirical data that confirms a hypothesis because then the hypothesis is, well,.... confirmed. Joedeep is quite correct about the survey not being scientific. ANY survey done here is potentially (though not necessarily) biased by what might be called "selective non-response." That is, those who do not respond are not a random sample of the overall population (the membership) being surveyed.

Ace, thank you for posting this question! I have no idea why people are calling this basic demographic question unscientific. This is a classic example of convenience sampling, and is frequently used in social research. I also think the question is easy to understand as written. Note that Ace also constructed his age brackets correctly, as I've seen plenty of poor surveys that have overlapping age ranges (e.g. 20-25, 25-30, so what do you put if you are 25?) I guess you could say there could be an issue with respondent bias in that some people may not prefer to answer, assuming there even is a bias there that responders are somehow different from nonresponders. That still doesn't mean it is not scientific. We've seen Ace's research question, and I suspect he had a preformed hypothesis before asking it (and if he posted it, that would certainly bias the results). Overall, I think is useful and could yield some interesting results if compared to Crypto's old list of QS scenes by year.

The poll asks how old you are. It's not a complex question. Don't read too much into it.

"respondent bias" is another way of saying "selective non response". The question itself is formed correctly.

Having read the other comments on this a bit, I have to admit I'm likely wrong as to the popularity of QS having some media input, and that such input has changed over time.
From what I understand, some of the early quicksand scenes had female orgasms dubbed into the sounds of the woman struggling in the QS. (small wonder that would wind up a turn-on!)

I thought we might go extinct, but the 18-24 group seems healthy size. Good to see there is still new blood even though Hollywood dropped quicksand like a bad habit.

The younger crowd around here(myself included) had the advantage that people were already producing professional quicksand scenes by the time we got here. I remember the original Krystal clip being my big eye opener into the community.
