Is it really common practice to repair crashed planes? That concept is kind of frightening. It's one thing if you pop a tire or suck a bird into an engine but that thing is pretty screwed up.

No, I'd say this Bus is trashed; the impact forces probably even killed all the instruments and electronics on the flight deck. A wrecker might be able to part some things out, like components, seats, stuff from the galleys and lavs, etc.

But repairing some things are done, like tail strikes. As long as the proper procedures followed, everything is fine. That is what happened with the JAL 747 over Mt Fuji years back, they had repaired a tail strike which damaged the rear pressure bulkhead improperly, and it was just a matter of mathematics as to the number of cycles before it failed. Took the back part of tail, rudder, and most of the stab with it. Not good
