Re: Oh Dear!
Having been to Studio 588 and having partaken of the delicious results of its kitchen, I can attest that you are a real cook. Every so often I realize that there has been no garlic french toast since the last time I was there, nor have I nibbled on the salad with whatever kind of mysterious dressing that was always used at your place that only you made.
You know, don't you...that if you'd entered that, you might have won?
(I would find it hard to eat anything so cute as a squirrel, but there sure are enough of them around here...I imagine, before big box grocery stores and McDonalds, this may have been one way that people really had to feed themselves.)

Thank you for the kind words. I suppose the "attraction" of eating squirrels is probably an aspect of the phenomenon of remembering the past as better than it really was.

Here is something I have worked out as a mid-afternoon snack offered to group rentals at the Studio: Pan-fried plantain and carrot medallions with cinnamon. Peel the plantain and carrot (or either) and cut into medallions. The carrot can optionally be cut into sticks. Pan fry these in olive oil, turning them at least once so they get caramelized on both sides. When nearly done, add about 1 tablespoon of a mixture of 1 part ground cinnamon and three parts sugar. Caramelize this and serve. This is a very inexpensive snack as 1 plantain runs about 68 cents and carrots are even less.

Re: Oh Dear!
Not just a Southern thing, we eat them up here too sometimes.
Easiest (and tastiest imho) way to eat them is to just clean, dress, skewer and toss them on the grill on low with a little bbq sauce. Pretty much like eating a big chicken wing.

Somehow I suspect that if I tried serving them during shoots the annual production of scenes would drop to something approximating zero, due to a shortage of models.

That sounds delicious. I would eat it. It might make a nice dessert after you're done preparing the squirrel drumsticks.
