What do you (or not) like in your Quicksand vids

Postby noone » Wed Mar 16, 2016 11:35 am

Let me start by saying, I was watching my copy of "Late for work" that I lawfully purchased at MPV.
I was actually hating it a little bit. wait. Let me explain.

The sound of a shutter clicking kept breaking my immersion.
After a while I just couldn't stand it.

I remembered way back to Arch enemies, when I had bought a few of their videos.
They didn't tell a story, it was just "Pretty girl(S) in dress clothing and Ludicrous heels -> plop in mud."
Almost no Drama ever, and some of them were clipped and rearranged so that the sinking wasn't linear.
Worst still, was the school girl outfit video. Carrie was striking poses, holding them, and a camera was Snapping away.

No drama, no story, and well... that damn noise.

So it got me thinking. What do I not like, and What I do like in quicksand videos.

1. Camera noises, etc. anything that breaks the immersion for the model and me.
2. The model battling against bugs, twigs, etc. She can't act if she can't think straight.
3. I like story. I like drama. But, I also want to get to the point. no intro story should go on and on and on and on
4. At some point the model should be shocked and say "Quicksand!" or something along these lines. "I'm Sinking in Quicksand", "Somebody Help, Quicksand" something to make me realize that she's in peril and not just having a fun time at a mud spa.
5. Nudity should be explained: She's a jungle girl, She was heading to her favorite spot at skinny dipper's creek, While fleeing a pursuer Her clothes catch on something or the pursuer grabs the cloth - either way, to escape she takes it off to further her escape.
6. While I love "Sinking about you" videos, I don't love them as much as that bit of peril and drama. I think many such erotic sinks could be improved with a bit more drama/story and peril.
7. I absolutely never want to see or hear a guy. not even a Charlie brown parents warble.
8. a quicksand video with drama and peril shouldn't have a cheerful musical number as an intro. it should set the mood. Like the "Quicksand girl - quicksand captive" Jungle girl does a wet scene, and then stumbles into quicksand. imagine if the beginning or end of the clip had "HAPPY-HAPPY-POKE'MON" jingle... Total Immersion killer.
9. Peanut butter Vs. Chocolate: they may be two great tastes, but this does not mean ANYTHING and EVERYTHING can be mixed with the quicksand fetish. Seriously, Somethings work great together... Somethings just do not.
Some people like tattoos, I don't. An aging model with a "Bit extra to love" and gore tattoos - No. I will pass.
10. MOMdels. Really, do I have to explain this one? If she could be my MOM or one of my mom's friends -> Just no. no no no.
20's, 30's, awesome! 40's pushing it. 50's, and beyond... NNNNnnnnnoooooooooooo!

Somethings are just me. Producers are going to make whatever they can. I mean no offense to anyone, I just wanted to get this of my chest.

Everyone has an opinion, And I want to hear yours:

a bit more on nudity. I am never thrilled by explicit or extreme scenes. they can be really hot, but not always my cup of tea.
The curve of the hip, A smooth tummy, even just standing up straight, can set my imagination ablaze.
A vivid profile, can stun.

Am I saying that I want pretense and Art?
Shadows, veils, smoke, and mist?
...Oh Hell no!
I always want to get to the point.
to be direct, a quicksand video should be about quicksand.
Be that Peril, drama, Rescue, Self-rescue, Submersion, or even grim - it's quicksand dang nab it.
Be that Sinking about you, erotic sink, or even the Muddy Model Picture story by Mud Gecko...

It's QUICKSAND dang nab it!

Like:
Model walking into quicksand and getting stuck, just a few inches deep, then slowly sinking at a relatively constant rate.

Dislike:
Model falling into quicksand up to her chest or deeper.

Like:
Slow immersion, struggling for the last breath.

Dislike:
Model being yanked abruptly under by some unseen force that waited until the end of the scene to decide to act.

Like:
The appearance of reality. This includes natural sounds and events, so bugs don't bother me.

Dislike:
Music. Under the opening credits is fine, but adding a score to the scene just reminds me that I'm watching a scene, destroying the illusion.

Like:
Natural-looking models.

Dislike:
Heavy makeup, particularly lipstick.

Like:
Attractive models. I know, attractive is a subjective term, which I'm not even going to bother trying to address.

Dislike:
"Look! I have boobs!"

Like:
Continuity. The scene should begin and flow to a natural conclusion.

Dislike:
Obvious editing techniques that interrupt continuity. This includes repeated moments from different angles, jump cuts, and a host of other cinema sins.

Like:
High technical standards.

Dislike:
Lack of high technical standards.

[EDIT]
Ok, context for my opinions.

First, I've been buying videos since there were videos to buy, and I was active on ASFWAM and ABEFWAM before that. I have a box full of VHS, mostly MPV, but a couple from the WAMTEC and a few others from sources lost to antiquity. I've got somewhere on the order of 30 DVDs, a handful of purchased download scenes, and gigabytes of misc free downloads. I refuse to calculate how many thousands of dollars I've spent on this over the years, but I'm quite sure that "thousands" is the correct term.

Second, my father was a professional photographer, so I grew up with that trade. I went to college for film making, and I now teach video production at a private university in addition to doing freelance production work. This explains my particular emphasis on production standards.

The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

A very interesting and, potentially, useful thread. I think it would be more useful, from a producer's point of view, for comments to be put in context. To some extent this has been done with statements such as "my POV only, but also useful would be facts such as how many videos (not teasers) one has actually purchaed, the background one might have in photography or videography, and things like that.
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 20 different producers. Info may be found at:

Excellent point. If you've been watching videos since the early days the quality and variety of what is out there now is quite different.

I think threads like this are great. Just wanted to clarify that Late for Work is from DIDVP and you must have purchased it through Club MPV. A certain producer would have a stroke if he though you heard too much camera noise.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

A note on still camera clicks.

I agree that the clicks made by still cameras are a nagative when they occur, except in scenes in which the story involves someone taking pictures. The crewperson who is taking stills is always supposed to stay well away from the video camera microphones, to avoid taking stills when any character is speaking, to never, ever take multiple images in rapid succession, and to not get carried away with trying to take large numbers of them. After alol, the video cameras take thirty of them every second and there are often several of them. Sometimes the crewman does not listen and sometimes mistakes are made.

MOST, though not all, camera clicks can be edited out, although the process can be tedious. If they occur on top of a character's dialogue, of course, they cannot be edited out.

OK to put my purchasing history in context:

I've bought various VHS tapes (from MPV and Wave video), DVDs from MPV (before digital downloads were a thing) and more clips than I can count from (mostly) MPV (117 from club MPV alone), a fair few from DIDVP directly via Clips4sale, a handful from Fred and one or two from Quicksandgirls and the other site hosted by the same person.

I even bought the Devilclown DVD (although I had to wait till the downloads were offered to see it  ) and a Loch Ness clip. I was a big fan of some of the girls from Pamela Rose Productions too but bought exclusively via Club MPV.

LIKES:
1) Basic sinks with no back story. I don't care at all about how they got there and I always skip the entire story and go for the main course.
2) Dramatic scenes
3) Dresses. In fact I prefer the actresses to be clothed in general. I'd also love to see some more girls in jogging/ running gear.
4) "Moderate" speed sinks. Plunging to anything deeper than butt deep is a waste of my money IMO.
5) Arms being plunged in and stuck to sides with no chance of them ever coming back out is always nice as a sink progresses
6) Nice thick mud - brown like the colour of earth. The old MPV vids like Horserider had this down to an art form (or was that just Lena who was astoundingly good at sinking?)
7) Struggling
8) Gritted teeth (see struggling to get out) and physical exertion.
9) Pretty girls between 25 - 40 are my favorite.
10) Blonde girls.

DISLIKES:
A) A running commentary from the actresses. I'd prefer the grunts and groans of a struggle only.
B) Everything but dramatic scenes
C) Jungle girl outfits. Don't like them. Also don't like hats as they cover the eyes.
D) Rescues of any nature
E) Any indication that the actress can "rise up" from any depth. When they are at a depth the ONLY way is down, never up. This is my biggest dislike I think.
F) Watery quicksand. I'm not a big fan of hollywood quicksand for example as it's (to me) too much like sawdust on water (which I realise is the point but I very rarely buy those scenes nowadays)
G) Overhead views. Can't gauge depth and can't see the sinking.
H) Removing the camera focus from the hips/ butt/ breasts while the actress sinks. Happens so often I think that it's deliberate :) See overhead views above^
I) "Costumes" like pirate costumes and the like.

I could go on and on but I'll leave it at this for the time being.

My likes:
1. Chest waders (I know that chest waders haven't been in a scene yet, but if it does happen I will be very happy).
2. Wearing rubber boots (as in scene 904) if waders aren't happening.
3. The peat pit is my favorite pit. It just seems like the most realistic pit to me.
4. Slow, steady sinks. Slow sinks give me the impression that the mud is quite thick.
5. Outdoor sinks. They just make the scene seem more realistic.
My dislikes:
1. Excessive screams right before the submergence. A few sounds that tell me "She's quite scared" are fine, but when it gets to the point where she's screaming practically every other second, that's where I draw the line.
2. Sinks that are too quick. Really fast sinking gives me the impression that the mud is just water.
3. Indoor sinks. Basically in direct contrast to my 5th like.

I know I will be in the extreme minority here, but here's my list...

Dislikes:
- Staged or acted scenes. I'm not into the drama side, I just like seeing a lady enjoy sinking into the mire!
- Talking to the camera. I'm not there with you, and if I were I'd be right in there with you enjoying it! So don't talk to me like you want me to believe that I'm there!
- Vulgarity. I don't see this much in the stuff from the producers here, but it happened a lot years ago. Be sensual, be sexy, but don't be a slut or whore!
- Obnoxious music. Please, I don't want a cheesy music track playing while the model is enjoying the mud!

Likes:
- BBW! Yeah, I like larger women, and seeing them in the mud is totally awesome!
- Stills. Video is great if the scene is natural and not acted. But I almost prefer seeing stills as I can then use my imagination as to what happened!
- Natural locations. Kudos to Fred and others to take the effort to make a place to shoot scenes. But nothing can take the place of the feeling I got from seeing Kristine in the Chester mud!
- More depth! No, not in the mud, but in the photography! There are times when opening all the way up is great, however when the eyes are in focus but the ears are not an f5.6 would have probably been a better choice!

I admit that some of my favourite stills and videos are from the Pinays. They really have the "let's play in the mud" thing down to a science. But I'm not a big fan of Asian ladies in general, and would prefer to see Caucasian ladies in the same sort of scenes.

And I do have to also say that things are looking nice with the MPVbleck! That's is still an awesome idea!
