For me, it is the experience and the especially the tactile feel of slowly being swallowed by the ground (the thicker the better), imagining that there is no escape! i'm in the group that is drawn to dramatic sinking, damsels in distress, as shown in my avatar... quicksand is only one of the classic peril situations (like tied to the train tracks, or under a descending pendulum), but it's alway been one of my favorites... the damsel doesn't even have to be bound since quicksand is like Nature's Bondage
