Running & Quicksand

Postby beachbum » Mon May 02, 2016 10:05 am

As a runner, I have found a way to incorporate my quicksand fetish into my workouts. The idea came from watching and doing mud runs, and then seeing some quicksand videos. I always enjoyed the challenge of a mud run especially working together as a team. However, many times I, or my other teammates, were only stuck in the mud for a few seconds or maybe a minute or so. Now though, I have found a park in my area which has some waist deep mud in a pretty secluded area.

When I go running in this certain park, I like to have a nice run for a few miles, and then I finish with running over a very muddy and sticky creekbed in which I would sink up to my calves or even thighs. The few times I did this, I had to wiggle myself a bit into the mud to go up to my waist, but then it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get out (especially with shoes on), and is a great upper body workout to go along with my run. It's only about less than a mile from my car and I jog back. One time I got a strange look as I had completely muddy legs, but I enjoyed the fact that instead of just getting through mud quickly like the mud runs, I had to work to get out.

I see this scenario a lot in many videos, but anyone have some real life experience with this? I'm curious as to whether there are any runners who experienced this or interested, and I think I would enjoy this more with other people. My mud team I believe is more into just the obstacles in the mud runs rather than being stuck in mud.

I am not and never have been a runner, but your post induced me to think of an idea for a variation of the team mud run that might fit the scenario of deeper than usual mud. Suppose a mud run, team or individual, was conceived as a pursuit race, something like the pursuit event in Olympic Cycling. One competitor starts first and the next a minute later. Perhaps there are other hazards besides mud. If the second competitor catches the first the race ends at that point, otherwise the lowest total time wins. For those with no imagination this would be just a simple race but for the rest it might be conceived as cops and robbers, prisoners and guards, missionaries and indigenous people, or the like.

Or perhaps everyone you can think of, speeded up with comedy music and then all ending in the quicksand!

Oh tosh! Tanya retorted, quicksand churning,
Round her knees, then thighs, then oh dear!
It got intimate with her hips and her panties,
And squished rather funnily up her rear!

I like the ideas above. Still curious is there any female runner out there or even hiker than ran/walked right into the quicksand and had to struggle to get out? There are so may great videos on it, I'm sure there are some real life experiences or interest. If you want to get into shape, it's a great workout. LOL

This sounds a bit like the Hash House Harriers. Excellent "shiggy," I think is the term.
