VR quicksand - producer query

Sooo... I just splashed out on a HTC VIVE and happened to check out some VR porn (bear with me).

I've got to say I was fairly astounded with how immersive it was. It was like having the porn taking place in your front room.

It got me thinking that a VR quicksand scene, although massive in file size, would be completely amazing. So I guess the questions are:

1) Are any producers considering even creating a "proof of concept" VR quicksand scene?
2) Aside from the file size, what kind of equipment (and cost of said equipment) would be required to produce such content?
3) Has anyone else on the forum taken the plunge and checked out VR porn (so you'll get an idea what I am talking about here)?

Is this a situation where you wear goggles and headphones and the entire scene surrounds you, sight and sound, so that as you move your head and body it is as if you are right there "immersed" in the constructed world?

What hardware and software support this? You mentioned HTC VIVE but more is needed. Can you point us to the "best" VR tutorial out there?

How many QS fans even have equipment like this? Can you post a poll to learn?

Is the porn from the "f***er's" point of view or the "voyeur's" point of view?

Is it entirely computer generated imagery (CGI) or "live" footage specially filmed or some composition of the two?

My understanding is that many (all?) major advances in audio-visual technology have been driven or selected by the "adult entertainment" market.

Some examples:

1. Market selection of VHS over Beta.
2. Market selection of Blu-Ray over HD-DVD.
3. Market selection of some forms of streaming media over others.

I've had some discussions about this. The conclusion was; skip 3D, watch for an opportunity to try VR.

When the gear becomes affordable, I'm sure it will make itself known to me.

There are VR headsets/goggles/glasses out now that make use of your iphone/smartphone, which makes VR more affordable for consumers, at least.

I mentioned in some other thread that I got my consumer version Oculus Rift recently, and that it'd be beyond cool to see VR technology employed in videos, although the subject was a 3D animated video, not a live action one, which is probably much more difficult to produce. I also don't kid myself about how small of a market it would be, at least for now while VR hardware is still something of a fledgling industry, but I did bring up the fact that anyone who DID produce a VR-specific quicksand video would be the first ever to do so, which ain't nothin'. I mean, that's kind of groundbreaking, as it seems logical to me that both the technology and content for the platform will only become more and more widely accessible over time.

I'm excited to see what happens with it in the next few years.

Edit: Oh, and I should also mention that I use it in Second Life, which is pretty rad.

OK, I only looked at one VR porn video so let me try and explain.

HTC VIVE is a "room scale" virtual reality setup. You can walk around a virtual environment - as you say

- yes - this is exactly what it is.

It was LIVE, real footage also - not CGI or graphics. Very large file sizes - 6.5Gb for one video (around 30 mins long).

Kham mentioned a holodeck... that's the closest thing to it (although it's obviously not Star Trek levels yet lol it looks very very real). It's also not cheap. I've got a monster PC (already) which would set you back around £1000 and it set me back another £680 to get the VR setup.

Now - this isn't a Lawnmower Man virtual reality setup (back to the porn). It was like the porn actresses (is that the right term) were actually in the room. POV is them, well, fucking you and various other porny acts going on in the background (Someone told them to make lots of eye contact with the camera which was insane. They are essentially looking right into your eyes.)

Now... Imagine actually having the quicksand models sinking in the same room as you. You obviously can't touch them but it'd be like they were right in front of you sinking. I'd personally pay a premium for this kind of quicksand content but I'd like to hear what other Virtual Reality users think.

(Dave - amazing to hear its something you may consider in the future. I know it's mental expensive just now but I think it'd be worth it (obviously)).

I did a Google search on "VR porn" and looked at one of the hits. Interesting. Maybe they can get it simple enough to work on Android VR. I might consider that just to play with it (and myself), though for that I may as well wear a pair of (NSFW) Liquid Lapdance underwear and get some full-contact grinding to climax at the local strip club.
