Interesting. I think something similar happens with me. It's fuzzy, because I have never thought too much about it (even though I have shot several 'final submersion' scenarios over the years).
It may seem evasive on my part, but I am not a submersion fan. My feeling about folks who are is that it's more of a mental 'Haha!' thing. That's just a guess. And even if it's correct, it would only apply to a portion of the crowd. That's how these things go.
