Even though the mud was largely exposed, the water level was so high that the mud sunk below the surface wherever I had sunk, so I worked things out quite well by limiting each sink to separate halves of the bog.

However, it turned out that the side I chose for the video was much "juicier" than the side I chose for my personal sink. I was happy to be able to hold my breath longer during my submergence than I usually did.

But, I was disappointed that the wind kept coming up and masking the sounds of the bog farting and bubbling around me, as well as part of my "talking to myself" monologue.

I also shot some footage of the mud undulating from me agitating the floating mat of grass beside it, but the footage was extremely shaky. However, iMovie with its video stabilization tool fixed it nicely.

I don't know how I managed to get the timing so precise, since I could hardly see the screen through my partially muddy swim goggles when I turned it off, unless I clicked it off the moment I saw a change in the size of a white blur on the screen, but it is hard to remember.

But, click on that image, and you will notice that the surface of the mire is moving ever so slightly, before burping up a bubble!

But, this isn't swamp gas, but the escaping breath of a man who had just been sucked under the soggy, bubbling, farting slime! Not wanting to drown in the voracious ooze, he manages to break the surface of the sucking mire and work himself up higher, gasping for air, spitting out mud and coughing from the little bit of liquid earth that did manage to get into his throat during his ordeal!

Taking care not to make the wrong movements that could get him sucked back down again, he churns the mud all around him as he searches for the best escape route, before finally choosing the direction behind him, and working his way to safety!

In a bit of irony, the very ground that swallowed him whole becomes swallowed itself, by water from a nearby lake!
