How come in every Godzilla film I've seen a vast amount of tank shells,mortar rounds and machine-gun rounds are fired into the creature AT CLOSE RANGE(!),and he just shakes them off. In real life a flesh and blood creature would be decimated by such firepower,no matter how tough it's hide might be. At the end of said films these very same ammunition rounds prove to be the creature's undoing.P.S. I still get a great thrill out of watching them. Tis a point to ponder.

Which Godzia are you referring to? If I remember right, only one has it where Godzilla actually dies. In that one, she actually avoided everything that wasn't small arms fire. At the point where she died, she was on the bridge (tangled I believe. It's been a while since I have watched it.) so they had a stationary target to hit. Godzilla was just too nimble otherwise.

That's the only movie titled Godzilla that I've seen where Godzilla died. I actually enjoyed that movie. It was a good little monster flick, though I can see why lots of people don't like it in terms of a Godzilla movie.

I haven't seen that one yet. Though, I could've sworn I saw the "first" Godzilla movie. Then again, that was about fifteen or so years ago. I remember having a set of three or so of the black and white English subbed Godzilla movies. Even still, was that death by the creature or by the military?

That's the original 1954 film, although if you saw it, you probably saw the 1957 American release that added Raymond Burr as a shellshocked journalist recounting the events. But Godzilla was killed by the work of one mad scientist, who created a weapon which disintegrated oxygen molecules. The weapon was called the Oxygen Destroyer.

You also touched on another interesting point. The original, and the 1998 reboot, are the only two movies to identify Godzilla as female. Well, that's not quite accurate, since Matthew Broderick calls Godzilla "...a most unusual 'he'..." after discovering the creature is pregnant, implying hermaphroditic qualities. The 1998 Godzilla never gets called "she."

On a metaphoric level, you're missing a really important point, and it probably points to a cultural difference. Shusuka Kaneko, a veteran Godzilla actor, had this to say after attending a screening of the 1998 version:

It is interesting [that] the US version of Godzilla runs about trying to escape missiles... Americans seem unable to accept a creature that cannot be put down by their arms.

Godzilla is never overcome by force of arms, and only in the original film is Godzilla overcome by the wit of man in any form.

^^^Hmmm......they did lure him into a volcano and trap him with explosives in Godzilla 1985 (my personal fav). Didn't kill him though. If falling into an active volcano won't do the deed I don't think anything will lol.
